Historical Harps

Henriette Urban specializes in historical harps, particularly those from the period between 1550 and 1800, covering a wide range of different historical harps. Amongst them, she plays the Italian Triple Harp, also known as the arpa doppia, the Spanish harp (arpa de dos órdenes), and the single-pedal harp, which was used from the 1720s until the mid 1800s.

Biography

Henriette Urban, born in 2001, grew up near Hamburg. At the age of 11, she began her training at the Hamburg State Youth Music School in historical harp with Monika Mandelartz.

She completed her bachelor's degree in historical harp with honors in 2022 at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles in Belgium with Nicolas Achten. In 2023, she won the Call for a Concert competition organized by Margret Koell. In June 2024, she completed her Master of Performance in the harp class of Flora Papadopoulos at the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland.

She plays in international ensembles such as Scherzi Musicali, La Cetra d'Orfeo, BachWerkVokal, Kölner Akademie, and Wroclav Baroque Ensemble. As a soloist, she performs Handel's Harp Concerto HWV 294, including under the baton of Christian Rohrbach in April 2025, and she was part of the Stars of Tomorrow concert series as part of the European Harpsymposium 2025. She won the position of harpist with the Jeune Orchestre Baroque Européen for the 2025/2026 season. She has also participated in masterclasses with Johanna Seitz, Mara Galassi, John Griffiths, and Amandine Beyer.
